LANSING – State Representative Deb Kennedy (D-Brownstown) has been named Vice Chair of the House Labor Committee for the 95th Legislature. Kennedy also was named to the Great Lakes and Environment Committee, Education Committee, and Intergovernmental and Regional Affairs Committee.
"I'm honored to serve as Vice Chair of the House Labor Committee and to do my part to support our workers," Kennedy said. "Michigan's workers are the backbone of this state. In these challenging times, we must ensure that our working families have the support and resources they need to keep their heads above water. As we work to get our state back on track, I'll make sure that our workers don't get lost in the shuffle."
Kennedy's priorities for the 95th Legislature include creating good-paying jobs for Michigan workers and revitalizing our economy. Kennedy will bring her experience as a trustee on the Woodhaven-Brownstown Board of Education to the House Education Committee, focusing on strengthening our schools to prepare our children for the good-paying jobs of the 21st century. In her role on the Great Lakes and Environment Committee, Kennedy also will work to stop the influx of Canadian and out-of-state trash into Michigan and safeguard Michigan's waterways and other natural resources.
"Out-of-state and Canadian trash is a threat to our communities and way of life," Kennedy said. "We cannot allow other people's trash to put our land, air and water at risk. As part of the Great Lakes and Environment Committee, I will work to protect our natural resources so that they can be enjoyed for generations to come. Michigan is, after all, the Great Lakes State."
