LANSING – State Representative Deb Kennedy (D-Brownstown) is inviting residents to her upcoming Senior Summit in Brownstown on Monday, Aug. 31, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Brownstown Community Center, 21311 Telegraph Road. Kennedy represents the 23rd District, which includes the cities of Gibraltar, Flat Rock, Rockwood and Woodhaven and the townships of Brownstown, Grosse Ile, Huron and Sumpter.
"Staying both mentally and physically active will help us all to live longer and more rewarding lives," Kennedy said. "This summit will provide our seniors with the resources they need to ensure that their golden years are healthy and fulfilling. I'm excited about this opportunity to provide these important services to our seniors."
The free event will feature door prizes and a complimentary hot, healthy breakfast buffet, starting at 9:30 a.m., as well as health screenings provided by Oakwood Healthcare System's Community Health Department and vision screenings provided by SVS Vision of Taylor. David Wizgird of Hear Clear will offer a free video imaging of the ear.
There also will be special presentations by Amanda D'Angelo of The Senior Alliance/Area Agency on Aging, who will talk about resources for seniors who want to stay in their homes; Jennifer Parmalee, representing Elder Law, who will discuss will creation and a special deed of interest to seniors; and J.R. Beauboeuf of the Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation, who will talk about insurance basics and reverse mortgages.
"I hope that seniors in our community are able to take a little time for themselves to check on their health and learn about ways to enrich their physical and mental health," Kennedy said. "These types of events that bring health care experts and people together help create a safer and healthier community for everyone."
